Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
It's hard to explain without writing a freaking novel. It's driving me mad. I just want to be with someone without having to be someone else. I thought I found the perfect guy.. we've been best friends for like two years, but he is not dating my roommate... who btw is totally manipulative. I got over that.. moved on. Last week I hung out with an acquaintance who I have always found attractive, but assumed was out of my league.... out of no where he kissed me... I was taken aback and said "where'd that come from?" and he said he always thought I was cute. I was over the moon! But I haven't heard a peep from him since... I know he is a very busy guy - he is successful at his work and also very involved in the community and in politics, so I'm not too concerned... but figured I would have heard from him by now. It's just confusing.
My other problem is that I've never been willing to sacrifice my self or values or what I want to be with someone.. at the same time I have no idea who I am. I only know who I am not.
This is not easy to explain..... jeebus! I am trying... soon as I try to explain it I can't figure out what I am trying to say...
It's a great thing that you had/have confidence, which is the most attractive thing a person can have! However, you're doubting yourself lately, thinking that guys are out of your league. Then you said that certain guys aren't good enough? I'm sure a lot of people have standards of some sort, and I would imagine that with all of the princess fairytales that young girls grow up with, every woman is looking to meet their perfect prince charming. I would think that most women's standards are too high and that only 0.01% percent of men actually meet all of these standards. I think you should give some of these men who are "not good enough" a chance. You might really like them. Also, you may want to narrow down your standards to your most important (most reasonable) standards.
The problem is, I think you're finding the wrong men who have completely different priorities than you. They seem to want one night stands instead of a relationship. You might 'give it to them' too and they leave, or you don't and realizing they aren't 'going to get it,' they decide to leave.
Don't give up hope, though. There are men out there that want relationships. Don't 'give it away' too easily, and keep your guard up. See how compatible you two are.
The guy who kissed me last week is a guy I know from my networking circle that I have known for some time, but I never thought he thought that way about me at all. In the career path I am on, it would be stupid for someone in that circle to merely try to sleep with me and leave me... and it would be stupid for me to let him. I assumed that it meant he liked me, but not hearing from him for over a week? I'm just confused now. He's far more ahead in the game than I am, which is why I feel he is out of my league... but when it seemed he was interested I could totally buy it... now I am just confused.
I am just tired of being alone, but not tired enough to settle.
I get what you're saying when you say give them a chance - the guys who aren't "good enough" but I tried that... I dated a bunch last summer and it did nothing more than make me feel like crap about myself because I was spending time with guys I knew it would never go anywhere with.
These men are not too good for you. They may even perceive you to be too good for them. If they want to go out with you, even you think if they are too good, give them a chance.
I understand that you want someone who's going somewhere. If I was interested in dating, the person should have a somewhat decent career, that doesn't necessarily have to be spectacular, though.
I've heard that there's this dating advice that men give each other; they tell each other whenever they get a woman's number, etc. to not call her for several days, a week, so she'll want them and so they won't look desperate. (I think it's their way of playing hard to get.) It's quite stupid, and it'll most likely end up with the man getting dumped. However, over a week seems like a VERY long time. I would say to not get your hopes up. Keep it in mind for future reference for when a guy hasn't called you in two days after you gave him your number.
You should NOT settle and be in an unhappy, loveless marriage. You'd probably end up regretting it. Your partner doesn't have to be exactly what you're looking for but he needs to make you happy; you deserve happiness.
Unfortunately, when it comes to dating, this is the "cat and mouse" game men and women play. When you really want something, it isn't there. When you act like you don't give a shit, the guys'll be all over you, falling all over themselves and tripping over their dicks to even get a "hello" out of you. Unfortunately, you have to play the game. Even though you're SCREAMING inside for some human companionship, act like you don't give a shit. Play hard to get.
And place yourself in a situation where the male-to-female ratio is largely in your favor. Be the only woman in the room.
Don't sacrifice yourself or your values because that sure as hell doesn't make them stick around either.
I wish I had some comforting words to say, but all I can say is I know how you feel!
