Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Thank you for your thoughts, though. I appreciate it!
Focus on your symptoms, educate yourself into how your lifestyle may relate to the symptoms, and work with your doctor. For example, you know that depression can be a symptom of thyroid problems. That is worlds better than most people!
We are here to support you, so you can always rely on people here for that. Use your doctor for his or her medical advice.
I hope it goes well, let us know how you are doing!
Gentle hugs.
I read your post with great interest, first of all,the heading what do I ask my doctor?,I went through exactly the same trouble.I had been an active and hard working guy all of my life and I ignored my symptoms of depression,so much so,that I finally collapsed at work last July.I have been unable to work since.Through being honest with my doctor,I have now been diagnosed, properly, with psychotic depression,I guess what I'm trying to say is if you don't talk to someone professional about how your feeling they can't help you.Yes,I worried about the stigma, about what people would say,I felt weak and unable to function properly, and I still suffer badly today, but the medication helps me deal with my frequent thoughts of suicide and the voices that I hear in my mind. Please discuss how your feeling with your doctor,he won't laugh or tell you to pull yourself together,if you need anti depressants,he will advise you, that's what he trained for all those years. He will also be able to help you decide if therapy would be an option, but remember,at the end of the day it is still very much your decision,he cannot or will not go against your wishes. All I can tell you is that for me,I am still alive today simply because I shared my fears with my doctor,if I hadn't,....I probably would not still be here.I hope this helps my friend,I shall keep you in my daily prayers, have a blessed day,
Hugs,
Scott.
I am getting to the point where I need a boost, something to make my days a little more worth living. The thyroid/adrenal stuff takes time to resolve, and the fatigue will take time to go away. But I'm feeling that if I can deal with the emotional side a little bit, it can be a bit of a boost to peel me off the ground and maybe just get out for a walk, some fresh air, something to get me moving again because right now I'm a complete sloth.
I think I am slowly becoming a little more comfortable telling my Dr that I need help mentally. I've had so many "friends" in my real life tell me that "taking the happy pill would help so much". But I am not one of those people who does things because someone says I should. I need to come to that conclusion on my own. My boyfriend has been amazingly supportive and caring, and people here on DS are helpful too.
I just know that, right now, I am merely surviving in this life. I'm not living at all....
