Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
There ARE things that you can do when you feel depression coming: make a list of what you like to do--what gives you pleasure. After you ARE depressed it is hard to remember those things-
Make a list of friends, relatives, ANYONE that you like to talk to --and can--economically--talk to-- by phone, internet whatever-- ANYONE that you are comfortable telling about your depression, call and tell them that sometimes you need to distract yourself and that talking helps-- then when you ARE depressed call -- call a different person each day-- call friends that are shutin-- helping others helps you--
When I lived in a bigger city I would make it a point to go and walk in the malls, or a library, or museum-- when you are OUT OF YOUR HOUSE you are less likely to be thinking DARK thoughts-- and the light, colors, and sounds of a public place MIGHT lift your mood (unless it is christmas--NEVER go to malls during HOLIDAYS!)
The thing is to plan all of this ahead--because once you are depressed--your mind tends to shut down-- have it all written down--do one thing a day-- whether you WANT to or not--
Getting out in SUNSHINE is good when you are depressed also--
talking to people on DAILY STRENGTH--going to places like CLUB FUNNY BONE, A LAUGHTER CLUB-- there are several groups for jokes and fun on here--
am glad you liked it. The original is a Native American and I have taken the liberty of adapting it to suit me.
Do with it as you will my friend. There is something deeply moving and spiritual in the words for me.
Thanks for the tips. Will definately try it. At the moment, I am just wollowing in my own self pity and sadness.
Hope you are having a better day than me.
