Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
What would you tell them?
1. How much control do I have over the past, what's come and gone? Answer: zip
2. Therefore, there's no point beating myself up over it. (I know, I know, easier said than done!) The ONLY time I have any control over is right this minute. What can I do right this minute that will help me feel happy/purposeful/more comfortable/or whatever? (Whichever I'm capable of at the time.) And then I do it, even if it's nothing more than putting on a pair of warmer socks.
who wants to, or who can actually answer that question? it is really a hard question to answer.
On the other hand, I have learned things about life on a different time line than others
You have probably accomplished things that you are not even aware of
Depression is a thief...it does steal time, but you are a survivor kiddo
I like what starfish wrote, be kind to yourself you deserve it

When I Have mentally stay and ponder in the past, woulda, coulda, shoulda, and beat myself up...I cannot tell you how many open doors I missed in front of me, by continually staring at the close doors behind me.
They are closed.
When I am in the situation that you were in, I make myself listen to THEM, and genuinely oh and awe over their list of accomplishments.
When they ask me I am honest, but not in detail. "Well, I am not where I thought I would be at this time in my life, but I am figuring it out--a day at a time.
If they press for more, I offer short answers, but again no detail. One it really is none of their business. And please consider, no one can make you feel less than them, ashamed of your life, etc. without your permission.
You have accomplished much. Accomplishments are subjective.
Like with me, I have learned not to be so angry--for ME, that is a big accomplishment. How would I put that into words? Well, how about I was challenged with anger, but really put my mind to it and now I am a much appier person.
Okay maybe that wasn't the best example, but I am hoping you understand...
Maybe write it down, keep an accomplishment, or thankful journal. Seeing in writing is so validating and makes you remember how far you really have come...
Like someone else mentioned. I may have not figured outmy life yet, but I do keep redefining it. Maybe you can redefine where should be to where it is reasonable for you to be AND where YOU will be happy.
Hope this helps...
