is there a difference between my family wanting what’s best for me and wanting me to be happy because I don’t know. I’m 21 years old and they say they wants what’s best for me but they won’t let me do what makes ME happy. They’re putting in my mind that I can’t hang around ceartin people because they don’t like their skin color being different than mine. They don’t want me being with certain guys because they don’t approve of their skin color. I mean isn’t the point of life doing what makes you happy and not doing what makes other people happy? They can’t tell me what kind of guys to like because what if one day I find the right guy and it’s someone I know they won’t approve of? How will I ever know what kind of guys I like and don’t like or what I want in a guy if they keep telling me what they think I want. I’m an adult and I just wanna find myself without people wanting me to do what they say even if they want me to do something I don’t wanna do.

The best antidepressant is when my wishes are honored. An example, the faucet in my apartment was running although the knobs were turned shut all the way, and one of the pulling strings on my ceiling fan came off. As soon as I notified my maintenance man, he was quick to reply with the work order. RAPID response... he's getting my services around my apartment done. I appreciate my landlord and...

Hello,so I'm currently in a weird relationship with my long distance ex who I've never met in person and it's taking a toll on me. I've lost 15 pounds and lost my appetite, but I'm really attached to him. We've had a lot of problems and I think that has caused me to gain severe anxiety. I don't know if I should wait until it gets better or what. Everytime I've blocked him, it has tend to make me...

You have mentioned what they don't want you do to. What about what they DO want you to do?
Do they approve of you dating at all? Is it a racial issue or more?
I think a biracial relationship MIGHT be something you find out is a difficult one. I am not racist, but I know what I have observed. Your parents may know about such things more than you do, and want to protect you from what they have observed.
It does sound like your parents are overprotective and fail to realize you are no longer their child.
They had their chance to raise you to be an adult. You now are one, and it's time they let you be one.
I obviously don't have a clear answer as to what you need to do. You can't sacrifice YOUR happiness for the happiness of others. Considering your legal age, I say do what suits you best. They will have to accept it ... or not.
But, knowing what I know vs what they know, they arent always right. And yes I am young, I still have lots to learn.. it doesnt matter.
Our parents arent perfect either who is, really? there are blemishes there...
So, its okay to have your opinions. Keep them, you dont always need to agree. But ive also learned to pick my battles... yah know, sometimes there is unnecessary drama that can be avoided.
There is a point in time when you have to just realize, that Yes they are your parents, Yes you love them etc. But You got to do You. You cant please everyone, theres no point. So, for now Id say ignore it, I know its hard but focus on yourself, make plans to be independent if you truly wish to be away from your parents.
Make your own opinions, let their opinions just fly by.
