Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I feel like a yo-yo. I can feel perfectly happy one moment and then 2 minutes later start crying and feel really sad. I am up and down. My emotions are all over the map. It just hits me out of the blue-I don't even have to be thinking about anything in particular. This goes on all day long. I hate feeling like this. One minute I feel like just giving up then the next think how crazy I was for thinking like that. Are these symptoms of being bipolar?

I am bipolar and feel this way but also have other symptoms such as extreme anger, voices/ etc. what other symptoms do you have not meaning that doesn't mean you do 't have a bipolar disorder, but it's best to discuss this with your pdoc.

I am also bipolar so I understand the good times and bad times. Sometimes it is like I can feel the gears changing in my head. Proper medication helps a lot.

I don't hear voices. I don't get extremely angry but I can get angry. I have always felt (and others also) that I can tend to get mad too easily. The least little thing will set me off. For example, if I'm searching something here on the internet and the computer freezes up or I lose the page I will start cussing and get very upset when I was perfectly content right before that happened. I have been diagnosed with personality disorder before but not all the time?

I am identical to what you are dealing with, adlk. I thought i was getting reclassified as bipolar as well but still am in the same class with the same symptoms. I was referred to as having major depression. I try and use stuff to completely block out the way I am feeling like visualizing or self hypnosis but it takes effort which a good deal of the time is waning on me. . I still go with the visualization because it takes me away from the situation or thinking at hand.

I have a feeling that you have a mild version of bi-polar as I do the same thing as you do. Some days I am up up up and I could be like that for 3 or 4 days, then all of a sudden the depression hits me and I have no idea why. I guess my sub conscious is controlling those moods. As you said, you aren't always thinking of something which is why I brought up our sub conscious. I was told I was bi-polar by a Psychiatrist but I have never believed it's anything more then a mild case. Hugs GB
