Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
there is Mind
there is also the UK BP Forum which is online I know but they run real life support groups
The Samaritans
Saneline
I would like to speak to someone in the hope of feeling better, I would really like to try medication again but it has been so bad in the past I would need to have an active involvement (i.e. not seeing someone once every 6 months (GP/ NHS) treatment)
So - I've spoken to Samaritans - they say go to A&E and/ or they cannot help it isn't something they can deal with.
Mind - don't seem to know what to say, they just said - "we cannot recommend or advise on people for you to speak to"
I am not sure about the BP forum or Saneline - have you tried them? Honestly - do they offer practical help? I feel a bit of a dick, but I just want someone to say more than " you are too weird, go somewhere else"... :/
NHS has been beyond useless - try this drug, try this one come back in 6 months and they only have the budget - I quote "If you will kill someone or kill yourself"... If I say yes, I'm suicidal, I go to hospital, lose my job, lose my family, lose everything... but they won't do anything unless I say one of those two things and am locked away :'(
To be fair, my disability of PTSD surfaced mostly as depression. No Bipolar, self harm, or addiction. Mostly depression/anxiety/anger.
All I can have, so far, is anti- psychotics, or anti- depressants, which don't work for me - because they don't treat my condition! Or are just lame... Easy example, prozac, I vomit all over all the walls...
Here I have less than 5 minutes to talk to someone, after a wait of two weeks. Or I do the US way (as I understand it) of saving money for two months to go private, then overpay for a prescription and save for more time to go assess it.....
It sucks being poor and depressed.
But thank you for your reply, I am glad you feel better.
I have to do that and would appreciate some advice.
Simple question / hard answer.
In its simplest form, I took an intensely pragmatic approach. I took a look at my reactions to things ... and stopped 'going' like that. Single minded determination. Took the most righteous paths I could come up with. Something I must do for the rest of my life. Took/takes tremendous concentration ..but it works .. immediately.
I've never tried saneline.. it's just a number we are given here if we are in crisis..... we have a crisis line but you have to be in the system already... which is useless for people like yourself.... I'll go get the link for BP UK for you... there is an online forum like here but they do run real life support groups.... a new one has just started where I live.... I don't know if they give phone support or something... I'll try go and find out
check to see if there is a local support group..... fingers crossed there is bcs I find mine invaluable...... yip you won't get meds but you will get support and may be able to point you in the right direction of an advocate or someone similar who can work with you bcs you need some help from somewhere
and try the online forum bcs it is British and therefore you might get more relevant help and advice
hope this helps
I know they is a part of the hospital, which is for mentally ill people where I live you don't have to be a danger to yourself or anyone they're three parts one if you're not so bad(sign yourself in due to feeling depressed or able to cope alone) which my mother in law is in, then the other two are for mor severe problems like if your are harming or a danger to yourself.
I don't know your gender, but for women they is women's scenter. I don't think if you sign yourself in for help it will be career destroying your allowed to leave to go out anytime just got to be back for dinner tea and bed and they will help yo u with mess and free counselling
hugs hope you get some support
