Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I have difficulty getting up, such that, lately, I've just been getting up to go to a part-time job. Now, I'm glad that I can get to the job,
but I would like to be able to do more.
I want to be able to clean my home, eat healthy, etc., but when I wake up, I feel very badly.
Today, I had to get up to take someone to an appointment. Prior to hearing from the person, I was in bed feeling like I couldn't face the thought of getting up to have breakfast, organize some, etc. before work. Once I was reminded that I was giving the person a ride, I sprang into action.
I just wish I could do it myself without some external stimulus. It doesn't make sense.
I want to post here, and follow-up with my progress. Hoping this process will help me establish a new habit.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Hope the dog days of summer aren't getting you down!

years when I was younger. I am also lazy. So self pushing to
do things are hard. But now that I've straightened the closets
I feel better when I see them. And that motivates me to keep
going. Clean refrigerator. Computer room. Thought of stroke,
eye operation that could go bad, kidney failure is pushing me
to take better care of my diabetes. Could your blood sugar be
up way to high? Before I was diagnosed I had very little energy.
After being on metformin for a while I got a lot more energy.
I have days where I only get the essential things done. Other times I feel more industrious, I think this is to be expected with depression, but I try not to let it get a hold. If I have a lazy day, I try to follow it up with a busier one.
Try to find some methods to keep your energy levels up.
Set an alarm for a reasonable time even if you have no commitments. Try to get a job done early, before sitting down. I always clean the kitchen while I make my morning tea, then I sit down to drink it. I stay out of the living room until the evening, if I sit on the couch it’s fatal. I make lists and get some satisfaction by ticking things off my to do list.
Good luck with this. Post again, it would be good to hear about your progress.
So, having to be accountable to this post helped me get up this Monday. Yay.
Thanks for the suggestion about a med check - sounds good.
I've been thinking about confiding in a friend and also using a journal for discussing this.
Basically, I feel anxious about getting up and have intrusive thoughts that I feel I have to deal with.
I'm not sure if the post can be moved.
Like for a lot of people, there are probably various reasons for what I've dealt with.
I remember as a young child being told by an older sibling, who had gone to a science fair, that "for every hour of sleep you lose, it takes 8 hours to make that up", which is pretty ridiculous, but I didn't know any better and internalized that information. Probably, I'm guessing what happened was some miscommunication about the science fair info that really had to do with cigarettes - that every one smoked will take 8 seconds off of one's life, for instance - I don't know - I was only like 5 years old at the time.
Then, as a teenager, I remember having headaches, whenever I woke up in the morning, which didn't go away until I found out that I had sleep apnea at age 40 and started to use a cpap machine. Before cpap, I thought, well, "I must not be getting enough sleep ..."
Shifting gears, this morning I was thinking about cutting myself some slack. I mean, it's Thursday, and I've made it to work each day. And while Monday and Tuesday went smoothly this week, but Wednesday and today were difficult - I hung around in bed for an extra hour or two - I've had to deal with a lot over time. So, I feel like giving myself credit and focusing on the positive here.
Hopefully, this is helpful to someone else, too - I have appreciated the feedback and comments.
That is difficult to say the least.
