Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You will one day be glad you helped your mother. I know what hell you are going through, but doing those things is basically the "right" thing to do. I am hoping & praying that someday my own kids will help me when Im old, but Im not holding my breath. Young people nowadays don't have the sense of "honor thy father & mother".
Hang in there & keep coming here to vent. (hugs)
YOU get to decide what qualifies as a right now issue!
I don't know how to react to her wishing to die other than to suggest, QUITE TONGUE IN CHEEK that you say "Well maw, better you than me."
But that would be unkind, so you might just want to think it.
My MIL has stated a desire to die in the past, but only to my wife. The way my wife deals with it is to validate what ever issue she is facing, but guides her to other solutions. Granted my MIL is not a constant "I want to die" type of person.
Please make yourself more of a priority in your life.
Continuing hugs
I do hope you don't rely on the alcohol too much, even though I drink from time to time, I'm very sensitive to it being used in excess. My brother died from it, and I don't want anyone else going through what he went through in his final couple of weeks, or what we've gone through in losing him.
Well, that is certainly alcoholic thinking. The logic is "I have this problem, .. so I think I will create new problems to go along with it,"
Inebriation is no solution ... and surely you can understand that.
I don't know of Mom is in there because of mental or physical limitations ... or both. If mental, she may not be able to comprehend reality.
If, on the other hand, she can .. here is her reality .. she is there because it is deemed to be the best place for her. If she thinks she can do better, she should walk out of there.
There it is, Mom ... either accept or get out of it ... if you can make it on your own. There are no other choices. You are free to go with either one.
As for her dependence on you, ... her needs are provided by the facility she is in ... .. that is why she is there ... so THEY can 'take care' of her ... and they are being paid to do it. If she doesn't like this brand of tissue, she can ask THEM for her preferred. They can say yes or they can say no.
You will NEVER be able to make her happy. This is why you want to get drunk which will be an epic FAIL.
In your case, set your OWN limits ... because someone has to.
I LIVE IN ANOTHER STATE IN FACT.

Its not an escape..its a death trap.
And escape is a movie, a walk, a bike ride, a trip to an aquarium, a museum....the mall....Walmart...even CVS!!!
Just take care of you and the rest will follow.
Someone said it...she is not in her right mind...don't let this push you into a BAD frame of mind as well :(
Try telling her the truth(with love) about how her constant demands make you feel. Tho she may not react the way you want her too, at least you've done what you need to do for you. Good luck and God be with you during this trying time.
I don't have much to add when it comes to your mom. I'll repeat what sounds like good advice. Work on yourself.
If your mom doesn't like the place, maybe there is a better one out there for her. They are supposed to take care of her there.
