Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Here is some information about Tramadol.
DRUG CLASS AND MECHANISM: Tramadol is a man-made (synthetic) analgesic (pain reliever). Its exact mechanism of action is unknown, but it is similar to morphine. Like morphine, tramadol binds to receptors in the brain (narcotic or opioid receptors) that are important for transmitting the sensation of pain from throughout the body to the brain. Tramadol, like other narcotics used for the treatment of pain, may be abused. Tramadol is not a nonsteroidal anti-iinflammatory drug (NSAID) and does not have the increased risk of stomach ulceration and internal bleeding that can occur with NSAIDs.

You know what I mean? So how can that be a bad thing? Take it a day at a time and see what happens. Talk to your Doctor and see what he or she says about the Tramadol. How is your eye feeling today?
It's an opioid analgesic. So yes, you can become addicted to it, so please be careful.
Besides the pain relief, what you may be experiencing is the inhibition of reuptake of both serotinin and norepinephrine. Have you ever taken an SSRI or SNRI? I would bring this up to your doctor if you really think it might benefit you.
I would not advise using the tramadol for anything but pain, since that's what it was prescribed for.
Also, just be sure when you're talking to any doc that you tell them about the St. John's wort as well. That's really important because it interacts with a lot of meds.
I think that you should do what you want and what you are comfortable with. You know yourself best. :-)
