I have never actually known anyone who committed suicide. I can see how it would be hard to deal with. I think to honor her memory, you can reflect on the positive times you shared together. You can also live your life to the fullest, and have a positive impact on others. I wish you well.

I don't see anything wrong with having a drink to celebrate her 21st birthday (as long as you don't have a drinking problem) if that's something you would've done with her to celebrate anyway. I would. She maybe not here anymore, but nothing can take away the friendship.

There's a lot you can do to honor her and to remember her. You could plant a tree in her memory. You could start a blog about about her and about how much you miss her. You could talk to her family members about her. You could help others who are survivors of suicide (there's a support group here at DS for that if you're interested). There's no need to feel alone with your feelings today. Many others are dealing with suicides and you can connect with those people and support each other----and maybe make some new friends while you're at it.

Very sorry about the loss of your friend..I agree with others here, lots of ways to honour her. Maybe light a candle, Post a poem, listen to music that she liked...etc.. Hope today isn't to painful for you and your able to reflect on happy memories..Hugs!!!

I love your poem. I've known several people who committed suicide, including 2 of my uncles, and it sucks! I think you should do whatever feels right and will help you grieve. I'm very sorry about your friend.

What a great poem. My grandmother just passed away and her funeral is tomorrow and I need to take a page out of others books and try to remember all the good times and honor her memory. Only you can know what is right to remember her and honor her and who she was.

when I have been to friends graves I usually find a bottle of which I do partake, which is why I now take a bottle with me when i do go to those places...Its... well.... it's kind of like having a drink with your friend AND when I find a half drank bottle I know another of their friends stopped by but its kind of like my friend is offering me a drink...

A little morbid I know but life is that way, well the way I tend to view it....

What I do when someone I held dear to my heart has passed and its playing on my heart I think what they liked to do and do it. Be it going to a movie a drive in the country or what ever THEN I go to a local church and take the time to light a candle in memory of my loved one. Im not religious and there is no deity involved its something special taking the time to light the candle in rememberance and feel close to them once again.
