Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
One day I snapped. I was done crying. I was done hurting myself to make the pain stop and to feel better because it never worked, not long term anyway. I was tired of letting depression beat me down and make me feel like crap, I would not let it have my life and I was going to get over it all by myself. If you remember one thing, remember this - Do not let it win.
I started doing things to distract myself. I would draw and paint, watch stupid videos on youtube or even a tv series that might be absolutely ridiculous but it was an escape. I read books, I started writing my own and blogging, I'd go for walks down to the nearest park and just watch everyone go by or boats sail on the water. And although you really might not feel like it (much like me) hang out with a friend once a week. I encourage you to get out of the house and let yourself be distracted because sometimes even just watching a movie with someone is a nice reprieve from your mind.
You need an escape from your mind that sometimes lets you sink under. I urge you to let yourself self-express in any and every way. If you want to scream into a pillow, do it. Get the frustration out. If you're feeling like absolute shit - write it down. I have a whole box of entries (hundreds of them) of all the bad days or thoughts and eventually the good days...the days where I started to feel better.
And I know what I next say might be the least exciting idea but - exercise. I found that when I started running I couldn't cry. I couldn't be sad. I had so many endorphins pumping from running that I felt GOOD. I felt refreshed and like nothing could catch me. I'd channel all that stress, anger, sadness, loneliness into each step and It felt amazing.
I was in your shoes. Key word being 'was'. I don't feel like that anymore...there is actually hope. There WILL be a day where you feel better, I know there will be. But things need to change, you need to distract yourself and change your lifestyle to one that makes you happy. Do things for you, find things to do that you love or will grow to love (I'm still learning to love running..) and I promise you that you will feel better.
I'm always here for a chat or a vent or advice.
I believe in you.
Do not let it win.
