Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
once in the hour of power I happened to hear something I never expected.
ppl who drink will get their pennies and pitch in...ppl who do drugs kill and maim...
case closed...the man was right/proper....
I suppose what he ment was drunks were not as emotionally starved as ppl who were doing various drugs....
hay not casting stones here...just say'n what I heard while waiting for food.....not a bed, just food...!
I understand what you mean exactly Drake, you have to help as best you can but still remember that your own stress level has to be held down just enough to keep it from topping off. Much the same as how a person needs to try to shut off their job stress off when they go home at night to shut off the stress it takes to do it or they can't continue to work.
I think that is why you find some of the kindest people in the most unexpected places. And why only one person can make a huge difference in your day.
I have seen it in people's eyes, without them saying a word. And it has helped me.
I have read between the lines, and seen it in another sufferer's words, typed on the screen. And have been moved by it.
I think another thing about it is that it can masquerade as protectiveness, stubbornness, shyness, awkwardness, and other funny vagaries of human behaviour. But it is there, and I am so so grateful for it.
I know I have difficulties separating empathy for compassion sometimes
An ex described them as such...If a person was drowning in the water
Compassion is throwing them a rope.
Empathy is throwing yourself in the water with them.
Misery loves miserable company.
Just as others have said. Those who have "been there" get it.
I think it is just much easier, and yields far more rewards all around, when kindness is practised regularly. As a rule, essentially.
The Dalai Lama makes a lot of sense.
"Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them, humanity cannot survive."
"Be kind whenever possible.
It is always possible."
------------
If people see being compassionate as a weakness, and they proceed to prey upon me for that, well, then--- it's definitely their issue, not mine. The guilt lays squarely on their shoulders.
Because I believe being genuinely compassionate makes you see farther, and also actually makes you stronger, as it requires selflessness, sensibility, patience, and a kind of vision.
It teaches one the value of all the 'little things'. And diminishes the differences between people.
