Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

If you have read any of my posts before, I have talked about therapy techniques and talking about the elephant in the room that families dance around rather than talk about. There is an elephant in my room I have been holding from you all that has been stomping on my family because we can't seem to be able to control it, but also can't talk about it in an effective way.
We didn't just move because of my husbands new job. My husband sought out a job away from where we lived to save our family.
I went away to college trying to get away from a terrible childhood. I had several things that made me question what I was doing, so I took the money I had saved up for college and drove to california to see family there and get some perspective. While there, my aunt, who died within the last few years, told me that I had to go back home because I was the only person strong enough in the family to take over the family farm.
When I graduated from College, I had high honers and was offered jobs all over the country and world with staggering amounts of money for a starting teacher. I turned it all down to move back home and take over the family farm. A fresh out of college person with 50-60K of student loans to pay back, and no job prospects, I moved into the small house we used to rent to start my job as care taker on the farm.
My ad's brother and his wife still lived there, and were in their late 70s. They were unable to do much for themselves, so not only did I care for the farm, but I also cared for them. Plus work full time jobs, start a family, and so many other things I did in those 12 years.
Now my uncle was known for his rudeness and mean-ness to everyone in the area. This was twice as bad to me because he was a misogynist through and through. His kids treated me like shit, and thretened my life and the lies of my family many times. I could hande it and protect them. I could do it all.
After years of abuse and me not leaving, my uncle started to love me, in his own way. He was still not nice, but he trusted me to be there no matter what, and could call me for help, and even say thank you for helping him. In this I drove he and his wife to Drs appointments, did their shopping, provided them with meals, did theor laundry, cleaning, and house fixes, as well as spending thousands of dollards and time fixing up disreapaired building at the farm. My house always came last.
My Uncle came to care for me enough, that he enjoyed my children and my company, and offered to sell me his ha;f intrest in the sharedfamily farm - the other half being owned by my dad. We quickly drew things up, but this is where thing started to go wrong. His daughter, who lives less than a mile from the farm and never came to visit or help, suddenly was around and curious in what was going to happen t the farm since her dad knew he was dying, and his lawyer had contacted her to tell her that my uncle had updated his will and left her executer. She then convinved him to not sign the sales agreement with me, and deemed them medically and mentaly not capable of signing for themselves, being also names their care taker or whatever it is called, and signed their half of the farm to herself. She then abnned me from ever seeing my uncle again, and he died.
Once he was dead, she suddenly wanted to be at the farm every day, and started putting locks on things. She had also in this time convinced my dad that there were life saving drugs his brother, my uncle needed to live that she couldn't aford, so my dad signed a contract to strip all tres and coal from the farm so she would have the mony. There is no drug to save old age at this point.
She then went to my dad and sttaed that she promised that she only signed the farm to herself to get it out of her parents name before they died, and promised him she would follow through with the contract that my uncle and I had drawn up that she had kept him from convinced him not to sign. After months of this, without her doing it, my dad asked the lawyer to send an updated agreement to her to sign to sell that half the farm to me. She refused and started going crazy.
I say carzy in a true way. She started to go after my children trying to use them as fodder to find information about me and make them fearful of me, but really making them fearful of just everything, and extremely anxious all the time - crying multiple times a day if she would come by. She started telling me what I was and was not allowed to do on the farm and calling the police after me, to terrorize me in my own home.
but before she went crazy in this way, my dad sold me his half interest and told me to get rid of her. His fear was that she was terrible with money and could not afford to keep the farm and I needed to protect the farm by petitioning the court to own her half. My dad did not have the courage to do it himself because he hates cauing waves and becomes very emotionally very easily.
After starting the court case, she went crazy. She would also ride her tractor, horse, and even car in my yard in circles around my house just to look in the windows to try to see what I was doing. She would turn me into CYS, and ry to destroy my reputation as a professional.
a year of this and my husband had enough. He had lost his job a year prior, and though he was working a new job, he decided to apply for a much better job 2 hours away to get his family away from her. He got it. I cried, but I knew it was right for my family. I live with the shame that I could not save the family farm.
The court case continues because each time we have an agreement, she lies and conives till it drags on. She recently learned how to use the internet - she's in her early 60's - and found face book, dragging my name through the mud with all the family watching. I try to stay the course of teh high ground and have responded none to it, accept through my lawyer to send her a cease and decist.
Now that we seem to have a coclusion again, she has called the state police and turned me in for staeling my own stuff out of my own house, and a few antiques that she sold when she first moved in herself. This was yesterday.
My dad cries all the time. My stress level is through the roof. I couldn't save the family farm. I am in a new place and hate it. ....
There is no winning in this situation no matter what, just plugging holes, but each time I do, she throws more dynomite. I just feel like I am losing it. My laywer is frustrated that he is associated with this case with no end in site, and is ready to pack out himself.
One of the worst things in this is my aunt is missing. She was to live in her house the rest of her life with me as her caretaker - she has alshimers - and my She moved my aunt suposedly in with her, but no one is allowed to see her, and I know she was in the hospital a few times because the hospital called me because my Aunt asked them to, but when I would go to visit her she would be gone. Now I no longer have that number that she used to call me on.
I hate it. This elephant in my room, my husband and I can't talk about effectively because of the depression it causes. but this elephant continues to stomp on my family even though we ran away from it with our tails between our legs.
PLEASE - do not sing for a property with another person and NEVER leave a property to move than one person. Save the next generation from this same mess.
Thanks for listening to my rant. I am going to try to sleep now. Fat chance there.
