Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
There are lessons from the death of Edward Kennedy for people with depression. Mr. Kennedy was inebriated one night, but chose to drive with a campaign staffer in his car, and got in an accident. Instead of calling police, he left the scene with a young girl in the car who died. Some believe she could have been saved had he called the police or emergency services.
From a revered public figure, perhaps our next president, he was scorned. Many would labor over the tragedy he caused and his foolishness, why drive, why did let the girl die, could I only have the moment back. His humiliation and tragedy was known to the whole country, but he persevered.
He worked on important legislation. He helped author the bill that provides for Cobra, continuation of medical insurance after one leaves a job. His many accomplishments after the tragedy have been discussed in the press, and prominnent leaders in the US and the world including 3 former presidents attended his funeral. Here are some of his final words.
I have been blessed to be a part of a wonderful family, and both of my parents, particularly my mother, kept our Catholic faith at the center of our lives. That gift of faith has sustained, nurtured and provided solace to me in the darkest hours. I know that I have been an imperfect human being, but with the help of my faith, I have tried to right my path."
Like many he was flawed, but was able to persever and found strenght in his religion (I am not Catholic)>

In terms of being flawed: I would only say, "who isn't?"; I have yet to meet a perfect person. Maybe Eleanor Roosevelt came close.

As I have mentioned before, he also championed mental health parity which disallowed insurance companies from discriminating in terms of setting limits on mental health services that had no limit on other physical conditions. This was a watershed. If we had more like him, this country wouldn't be in a "failure to thrive" mode right now.

I thought it was normal for kennedy to cover up woman deaths & rapes & abuse while appearing to have clean hands.
He made a good career for his self and his grand children - family tree.
