Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have a fiance who has been battling depression for years. He was on medication a long time ago before I was ever in the picture. We have been together almost 9 years. Every day I see the pain he goes through even if he doesn't talk about it. It usually comes out in anger. When he does open up I listen and suggest seeing a doctor. It has gotten much worse, but he has established primary care. I think I finally have him convinced to talk about it with his doctor about getting on medication.
On the flip side I have been suffering from depression and anxiety for quite some time. I have been on and off medication. I have forced myself to be the strong one in the relationship to be there for him. Even though at times it gets really rough I still hang on no matter the amount of stress that gets put on me. I have come to a conclusion however, that I should look into restablishling care and getting treated again for my depression and anxiety.
Here is to looking ahead to brighter days... :)

I invited Bill to have dinner with me last Sunday. He wasn't willing to drive 7 hours to mid Michigan and teased me with his beautiful ribs!!! So, of course I ate alone and had cedar salmonĀ

check out that smoke ring. It tasted really good. I smothered it with Maulls BBQ sauce which is Local to St. Louis and one of the best I ever had.....

I would like to say don't get so bogged down in 'understanding' this guy that you don't put him under any pressure to treat you the way you deserve. The world is filled with men who 'express their depression as anger' to the extent that I call BS on it. He's not twelve and you're not his mother.
And the world is filled with women who enable that kind of behaviour to their own detriment with a string of excuses for these guys. I'm glad you're getting counselling.
"And the world is filled with women who enable that kind of behaviour..."
So true, and it is absolutely crucial for *him* to be aware of that and to take specific action against ever using or abusing you in any kind of way. My wife and others suffered my "meltdowns" and angry outbursts and such for many years, and her doing so did not ever make me any better. Tell him you will do anything you possibly can to help...but also that it is *his* responsibility to get all of that under control.
Someone else can SUPPORT the effort of management of someone else's depression ...but it is the depressed who must do the managing.
The depressed has to at least take the brunt of fixing themselves.
If you're TRIGGERING anger - don't. Just stop and let him defuse over time. But if you're not, if he's auto-triggering, or throwing stress at you that landed on him from somewhere else: then that's not acceptable. Do not ever accept the weight of anger you yourself did not actually cause.
