SSRI and auto-immune link or coincidence?

I'm coming off of paxil and my autoimmune condition, dermatomyositis, has flared up again. I haven't had any symptoms in several years. I know that SSRI withdrawal can be pretty intense. So, I'm wondering if it triggered this flare, or if it is just a coincidence.

Anybody have any experience with this? Has an autoimmune condition started or flared while coming off an SSRI?

I've never taken an SSRI before so I can't say really but like pepperman said, that sounds like a question to ask your doctor really.

wow I know I am just repeating but ditto reply 1 and 2 and do it soon....do they answer questions over telephone if you did not want to go for office visit? it is related to the stopping of medications I guess....

You said you are coming off the Paxil, are you tapering? Tapering is a must! Never cold turkey an SSRI. I did it once and will never do that again! I ended up in the hospital because of it!

Yes, I am tapering, and yes I will ask the doctor. I see her tomorrow. I checked in with her two weeks ago about whether or not to go down another step bc of muscle pain. We didn't. Not sure the pain is from a flare or withdrawal.

I was asking here just cuz I wanted to know if anyone saw that link themselves.
