Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Second, you're right, you do need to grieve. We grieve in the same way for lost dreams as we would a death. You have had your future irrevocably changed, your dreams shattered and you need time to absorb that.
The earlier psychosis is treated the better the chance of controlling it with medication. Bipolar with psychosis has a much better prognosis than schizophrenia with psychosis. I would imagine that as his diagnosis is new his doctors will be trying out drug regimes for the best control of his symptoms.
I'm sorry for what you have lost; true love is a precious thing. ((Gentle Hugs))
A Psychosis is difficult to watch someone go through and trust me no fun to go through either...but not necessarily a life time sentence. In most cases only a short period of time. It all can be manged with meds and therapy and support but it takes times.. Just as depression can. If he is a danger to himself or society then a hospitalization can be forced by you. his spouse... You haven't lost him...The BP (mood swings) Chances are he always been like this. But has only just been diagnosed..
The only real advice is to look after your mental health first. Which is in question I think you need someone to really talk to about it all..
Maybe going in with his doctor to get your questions answered....
