Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Holidays are hard on lonely people .. I am one of them, but I please my feelings with seeing all the other people celebrating, .. like kids for instance. It is overall, a good time of year.
There are always helpful and CARING people on DS. Drop in here throughout the holidays and cheer someone else up .. it will make you feel good.
Sometimes we have to try a little harder to get the most out of things .. like your group. There are many who don't even have that.
Anyway, DS is here for you . I hope you can find some peace and joy.
There is such a thing as 'treatment resistant' .. and that is a rough place to be .. it means for whatever reason, the patient does not take to treatment well.
I think you should talk to us about why you can't talk in the group and other people can. Can't you 'just do what they do?' Talk about what they talk about? It might not be a well managed group, and a lot of people interrupt others .. I don't know.
Is there a therapist or counselor present in the meetings that you can talk to privately about the problems you have with the group?
See, .. the thing is, .. this group thing is what you have to work with. Of course, if you can't .. you can't .. but you need to give it a really, really good try. It is waiting for you to integrate so you can realize the benefit.
Looking forward to what you have to say about these things.
i wish i could just do what thy do but i just cant. even watching them playing games makes me so angry.
Ive told the doc but they said give it more time. Its been 5 months altogether going each thursday and i dont feel no benifit as i cant talk. Thy just wont listen to me thats the doc and psychartrist.
whaT THY SAID TO ME IS TRUE THAT I GOT TO OVER COME THE FEAR OF TALKING IN A GROUP BUT THY STILL DONT UNDERSTAND I REALLY CANT LET GO OF THINGS. opps sorry for caps.
Listen, .. I'm not going to 'get on you' to do something you can't do. That would be abuse. If ya can't, ya can't. Thing is .. maybe if we go real slow, take as long as you want, and just get it started a little, it will start to work better. What do you think? See, I don't know what else we can do .. and it is sad for you to suffer for such a thing.
It seems your doctor 'knows' you can do it .. and if you COULD do it, it would be so much simpler. With that, and no other choices, can I get you to promise to talk to us about it and maybe give it a real good try .. whenever you can? No rush. Don't HAVE to do anything .. just put your mind to this and see what can come of it?
I have an idea .. but first I need you to tell me a couple of things.
Is this group friendly? Does everyone support each other? Is it a friendly place?
I'm thinking you could write out a page or two of what you might want to say (don't even need to know what that is right now). Then, sorta like raise your hand to get their attention and start out with "I am very, very shy and I need your help to get through this, please". Then, start reading your 'paper' to them.
Just getting an idea of what you think about this .. NOT talking about what is on the paper .... yet.
What do you think?
