Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
'So here hath been dawning
Another blue Day:
Think wilt thou let it
Slip useless away.
Out of Eternity
This new Day is born;
Into Eternity,
At night, will return.
Behold it aforetime
No eye ever did:
So soon it forever
From all eyes is hid.
Here hath been dawning
Another blue Day:
Think wilt thou let it
Slip useless away.'
I was first introduced to the poem Today by Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881) as a hymn at school morning assembly. Unfortunately I have been unable to find a good recording of Hardwick, the usual tune it is sung to. Even as a child, the advice to use time wisely struck a chord with me. Now that I am old and do not have many days left, it seems even more important to me.
In January 2013, I had an accident causing a spinal injury, leaving me paralysed. I have very limited use of my hands, and even less below my shoulders. I live alone. I rely on carers visiting me at around 10am, 4.30pm and 8pm. I have only a limited influence on when I get up, when I eat and when I go to bed. Every day I spend uselessly a considerable amount of my limited time out of bed in my wheelchair. Although my carers do their best, I spend too much time waiting for those I have to rely on.
I find my daily routine mentally damaging. I have not been out of my home since January 2013, except for hospital visits. I have not even been upstairs in my home, and rarely leave my room. As a result, I can not occupy my mind with the here and now, as I used to before my accident. If I think of the past, it makes me very sad to remember friends or well-known people who are dead, or ill because of advanced years. Thinking of the future for me is even more gloomy. I try not to let my days 'slip useless away' but with only limited success.

Here is my new brother, copper :) He's so tiny! Moo and Tuck were ok with him on first meeting. Rocket due to his severe aggression will never meet Cooper.

Gentle hug Barry
I'm sorry that you struggle with so much
One of my closest friend's is incomplete quad from a terrible car accident
She does a lot of puzzles and paint by numbers
She only has limited use of her hands as well
Have you ever tried anything like that?
Another hug and a blessing...xo
By the way, what you share here on DS is very valuable, however, truly sorry I am to hear about the accident you experienced. SunCloudJD has a beautiful way to show kindness.
Barry, I pray for miracle breakthroughs for you and others like you. God bless your heart, Barry. You've endured so much and I admire your courage to fight the good fight. I hope and desire for your condition to be temporary because I believe in miracles. Science is seriously advanced Elon Musk can help those in need of mechanical assistance with high technology, in my opinion.
With God all things are possible. And when technology as power tools are effectively being intentionally used for man’s higher good, it is good work.
Do you believe in miracles? I believe you are a miracle but I also believe in the power of positive thinking and willpower... If a man can bend a spoon with the power of his mind without touching the spoon with his hands... Imagine what the mind can do with its own body to make it heal and command it to move without touching it.
Have you got time to read on miracles that strengthen your faith, and prepare you for your miracle, but you gotta believe with unwavering faith as you practice meditation healing.
God healed a guy from cancer at my church, I heard him give his testimony and his wife shared her experience in tears about finding out about his medical condition but also shared tears of joy because he is healed.
Prayer, meditation, and blessing others with the power of speech are the miracle works.
If you have faith the size of a mustard seed you can move mountains. Think about it. It's all mind over matter. Give it a try, and recall all your power back, command it back to you.
I hope you get to enjoy your fresh air breaks. We all need someone to lean on from time to time, so you are no joke for your caregivers because that's what they're there for to assist.
They serve you and you bless them with your priceless life.
Your brain will thank you for the fresh air... for the clarity to focus on those hymns... by the way, ever thought of maybe recording your own voice singing the song you mentioned above, because I would love to hear you sing (YouTube is a good online source for such).
Your story resonates with that of the Mexican artist with the unibrow Frida Kahlo, ever heard of her? I personally read about her in college when I took a Spanish course on Liberal Arts & Humanities. She became famous for her work after her condition.
