Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

I have been living on the street for quite a while now and things just get worse and worse. It is very cold at night so I try to sleep in the park during the day when the sun warms things, but today it was cold and rainy so no sleep for me. I wander around the city all night in the cold waiting for the sun to rise. There is no place I can go, no place for me to be. I turned myself into the hospital as suicidal a couple of weeks ago. Had an 11 day stay at the hospital but they can't really do anything for me. The social workers there say there is no place for me to live anywhere in the USA because I have no income. I will never have a place to sleep again. And I really can't handle sleeping on the ground anymore. Suicide seems to be the only answer. I will turn myself in to the hospital tomorrow, if I survive the night. I know they can't help me but it would be putting off suicide for a little while. Killing myself is going to be such a drag, but I honestly have no other option. The shelters don't help, I tried them. They just put you right back out on the street when they are done with you. Some of them make you wait a year till you are allowed to stay again. I have tried everything. Tried sleeping on public buses but they have security guards riding the buses now specifically to prevent homeless people from sleeping on them. There is nowhere for me to go, no where for me to exist. I will die soon. I am so sad today.

Heretic, it's so good to here from you. People have missed you. Maybe what the hospital woman said about needing to have money to find a place to live is incorrect--I wonder if that varies from state to state. I think in California the situation is more lenient. What state are you in. County to county can vary, too. Do you have a social worker? If not, could the hospital help find one for you?

that social worker is so wrong. you should be able to get assistance of some sort. you need to find someone that will help you. suicide is not the answer. you are a fighter and can do something about this. we just need to think of what that something is. I'm sure you have thought about getting a part time job somewhere but if Vegas (if you're still there) is like here its a double edge sword....to get a job you need an address, to get an address you need a job. There are some places that let you stay there and use their address until you get back on your feet. They help you with getting started. If that isn't an option where you are, maybe a move is in order. Other cities have better programs

You would never be treated like that here in California. I know a few homeless people and they get Med-I-Cal and food stamps and some even get money. I don't understand the state of Nevada at all, especially since it appears to be such a rich state, or what they want people to think anyway. It's implorable how you are treated! Thank you for letting us know what is going on. We are ALWAYS here for you. Hugs GB
