I debating a second job. I'm really on the fence about it, so I'd like some opinions please. I am thinking of applying for a specific job though. If I don't get it, I won't worry about looking at other jobs. This makes my decision time sensitive though, because they are hiring now and If I'm going to apply I need to hurry up and do so. Here are the details:
I currently work as a kennel attendant at a vet's office, I work about 30 hours a week there. I could cut down on hours there if I wanted, but would like to stay at least 20 a week for the free vet care benefits, but I could realistically cut down further if I wanted. I was at 18 hours when I first started, and we have current employees that only work like 12 hours a week. They still get benefits, just not as many. I have worked there for almost 3 years.
I am also currently going to school part time, Only 1 class this semester and will be taking 2 or 3 next semester.
The place that is hiring is the local training center where I train my dogs. They know me as I have been training there since April, which I hope would help me get the job. They have 3 positions available, 2 (doggie daycare attendant) at 30 hours a week and 1 (kennel attendant) that is part time but it is currently not known exactly how many hours they would need since they just added an overnight kennel. I have an interest in animal behavior, it has always been more of a hobby to me than a job prospect but maybe this job would open some doors. I know they have a trainer apprenticeship program as well, and if I already work there it might be easier to get in. Another plus to this job is its really close to my house so I wouldn't have to spend much/any extra gas money to get there. I could walk easy enough. My other job is a 30 min drive so that's a huge plus for me!
So I was thinking that I could apply for the kennel position, or even the doggie daycare person and just cut down some on my hours at my other job. My biggest concern of course is my classes. I will be taking chemistry, algebra, and economics next semester (or 2 of the 3). I'm a very good student, pretty good at balancing my time and studies, but I am concerned about the difficulty of the classes. I have had issues with anxiety and depression getting in the way of my schoolwork in the past but my life is more stable now than it was so I think I could handle it. I wouldn't want more than 40-50 hours between the 2 so it would be like working full time and going to school.
What do you guys think?

Now if the new job pays more, then cut back at the other place to bare minimum. It would save you gas money and make you more to spend on other needs.

But if you're going to school FOR animal behavior or something of the sort, that second job could very well have you already in the door before you even graduate school. A high-paying job in your area of interest, is, after all, what you're going to school FOR.
Concentrate on that second job and finishing school, knowing that you can tell the first job you need less hours if needs be.
