I've been depressed all my life yet "pass" for a happy person. Some of this is because people around me do not seem to know what to do or be interested in my depression. I'M "supposed to be happy and somehow do not have "permission" to be unhappy.

RIP Robin Williams.

I think that describes most depressed people. Smile through the pain. The sad part is for awhile the media will talk about depression and then it will go away until some other star does this.

I grew up with Robin Williams. He was and will always be an treasured icon of my childhood. One of the few. I was shocked to hear of Robins death and more so, his suicide.

I completely understand suicide. On so many levels. I understand the depression that suicide thrives on. Depression is a silent killer that can hide so well from even the best of the best peoples wisdom. And the outside world can easily make this illness worst.

I can not agree with suicide, but I certainly can understand it and more so, the depression and people that help create such a thing.

The passing of Robin Williams has hit me so very hard. He was a role-model and hero to me growing up and now his life was claimed by the very thing I suffer from myself. If anything it's validation to me and others that depression is very real and does not necessarily come from misfortune. RIP

Dig into the lives of hollywoods funny men, Williams, Farley. Louie Anderson, john Candy etc and you will find that many suffer from major depression

I'm so sad to hear of his passing =(. I think some people who have never experienced depression just associate it with "feeling really sad." There's so much more to it than that. At my worst it was difficult to do simple things like grocery shop and shower. I didn't know I was even capable of feeling that way until I actually felt it. No one knows exactly how another person feels inside (which is partially why his death is so shocking, he seemed so happy on the outside).

He seemed like a very sweet guy who was very good at covering up his inner demon of sadness by being a comedy animal.

I heard Hercules aka The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson say on E! Insider say that he also grapples with depression. He said it knocks you down and knocks you out. He said by pushing through those lows, you get stronger. Obviously he pushes through them with bodybuilding! Maybe depression will claim Dwayne too eventually, but for now, he's still with us!

It has been so easy for me to think that if I only had a lot of money, or a career where people adored me that my depression would go away.

Obviously that is not always the case.

Mr. Williams sir, thank you for a million laughs. May you find the peace that eluded you in life.
