"I need space"

6 days ago I was told by a great girl how much she was looking forward to 2011 and how she is glad we found each other after all these years. Yesterday she telss me.... "I need space". Long story short...I live in Florida and she lives in Baltimore and we fell in love quick. We have taken 3 "mini vacations" and have expressed to each other that we love each other. Now....I'm heartbroken like you won't believe. Her sister says to be optomistic and to give her time. My quistion is..... how can a person.... within 24 hours...go from "I love you and miss you and you make me happy" to "I need space"?

That does sound very confusing. Hopefully you guys can talk about things and figure them out. Long distance relationships are hard. Good luck.

Maybe you need to step back for a little bit and see if its something that will work. I am sure the distance thing is hard on her too. Maybe she doesn't know how to handle it. After you both have a little time maybe you can tal about things and see what'sthe best thing to do for you both.

Maybe you guys got along well in written communication, but when you got together, it was, naturally, a whole different ball-game, for her, perhaps a little overbearing?

I dunno...hang tough, ranger, and begin chatting with a lady in a little closer proximity. Anyone on base? Or in your hometown? I live near Deerfield Beach, Florida, and meet people all the time there.

Could be a simple thing of she got scared of how she felt, and was frightened she would get hurt. She put her feelings and emotions on the table, if she's been hurt before she may be worried of a repeat especially as this is a long distance thing, that might be adding to her worries.
Were all trying to second guess how she feels, but the only person who knows whats really bothering her is her. So i would gently ask her how she's feeling and does she have any worries that you could put her mind at rest.
