about once every 2 months, like clockwork, someone jumps onto DS and starts to shout about how DS isn't "secure".
to be honest, we find those comments very frustrating. we spend a significant amount of time on maintaining and improving security at DS. i'll remind everyone of a few simple rules:
1) DS is based on anonymity. Don't use your real name or even a common "handle" as your username.
2) The only thing we know about our users is the information they post to their public profile, and then we hold onto your email address but DO NOT display that to other members.
3) You can currently "lock" your journal posts, and soon we'll add additional features to that set, which I expect will be the ability to lock up your photos and possibly your entire profile.
4) We do not know of any incident where DS security has been compromised. Really.
So please, let's keep it all within reason, folks.

despite our clear warnings NOT to share personal information (email addresses, phone numbers, etc), people continue to do so on the site. PLEASE don't. we built DS so that you could talk to others without having to exchange that info.
That's what blows my mind. Most people who freak out about this have unique user names that no one would ever google anyway... if you're really concerned about someone you know looking you up, keep your ds name a secret. It's not something to have printed on your business cards or embroydered on your towels.

Did I fully read the terms et al? No.
Can I blame DS for this? No.
Do I feel justified asking DS to block Google? Yes.
Do I feel justifed DEMANDING that DS block Google? No.
Do I plan to stay, even if DS does NOTHING?
Yes.
Perhaps I will change my user name on my 1 year anaversery (bad spelling, very bad spelling!) to something new and unexpected.

Seriously, perhaps a warning on the window where we create our profile the first time to warn us that internet searches on our user name may find us here. (Or other mental health sites as well!)
