Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
However, prolonged, untreated depression does the same thing.
So the question would be one of timing.
Age also plays a factor. So do other medications you take.
So it really isn't an easy question to answer.
Sounds like now that I have been thinking about this as I am writing it, the best thing you can do is to talk directly with your doctor...and also read those horrid, long listings of side-effects on the patient information sheet you got for that particular drug.

I too am having memory problems that stared a few years ago and have gotten worse. I am 46 years old and have taken a LOT of meds over the years.
One thing you can do is sign up for lumosity.com brain training games to help promote regeneration and spark healing activity in various parts of your brain. I signed up but never do them and need to get on some sort of a schedule. They can also help with depression.
Uncontrolled depression can also lead to damage to parts of the brain is what I have been reading - something about a smaller hypothalamus over time for one thing.
I have the problem of not using rights and seeing worse differently than what they really are and I have to look a second time and realize I understood what I read totally differently.
I meant to say, "I have the problem of not using the right words and seeing words differently..."

when I was on 450 mg. of Lamictal for over a year or so, this all got very noticeable.
