Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
You may also be asked about family background:Is there a history of depression in your family,or addiction,or abuse, etc. You will not be asked deeply personal questions about these on a first visit--just for facts as you can relate them.If you have ever taken antidepressants for depression before, sometimes a therapist will want to know this as well.
Just be yourself, your first visit, and try to relax.Psychologists are not judgmental people, and your new psychologist plans to be there for you;that is why they're asking questions. He or she is your future ally, and wants and plans to be able to be at and on your side.
Been there, done that.
