Been feeling so low these past 2 weeks. Had had my ultrasound anatomy scan done and getting bad news on one of the most exciting days of my life. Had the amniocentesis done and got a call that my due date was miscalculated and I'm actually due 2weeks earlier. I have been traumatized. Now got my results for afp saying they are high. Is my baby ok? I keep asking myself what did I do wrong? I can not stop crying. I can not stop thinking negatively. I called the genetic couslor the other day before having the official result posted and she told me it was a bit higher. She relooked at the ultrasound my babies spine was in the clear along with his kidney and liver. They're doing more testing and I just can not relax, I can not stop crying. I need help. My significant other is starting to be sad too and he's trying to hold positive but I can not

I think that the AFP level changes during the pregnancy stages, and abnormal levels may indicate that the due date has been miscalculated, as it has been in your situation. A high level of AFP may mean that you are carrying twins, if this possibility has not been eliminated already. There can be false positive results that suggest a malformation problem(s) when in fact the baby is healthy. You have mentioned that the US of the baby's spine, kidneys and liver are normal. Nothing is really concrete until the baby is delivered. Perhaps you are too anxious. Have you joined a support group for expectant mothers? The members may experience similar situations and may be able to give you more information to settle your anxiety and expectations. Best wishes, and take care.

Hi thank you, I have tried through social media being added to a mothers support group but unfortunately there were a lot of more sad stories (nothing about any similar cases to mine but miscarriages in general). It just worsens my anxiety reading posts of those sorts. I just wish everything was calculated correctly from the beginning. It’s so hard staying positive in these situations.

Hang on Sunshine, the doctors have not made a definitive diagnosis yet. Until the baby is born, everything else is just speculation. I know the situation makes you anxious, but anxiety is not good for you and especially for baby, as a mother's anxiety can affect the baby's growth and functional well-being.

Thank you so much again for getting back to me. My anxiety did lower after the test results and they are fine thank god. It’s just so hard to get rid of anxiety in general
