Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
As for your parents, I consider that emotional abuse and I grew up with it. I hated it. Looking back, I don't think they meant harm, they just didn't realize what they were saying. For instance here is a complement from my Aunt, "if you didn't have ache you would be a very pretty girl". She thought that was a compliment. All I heard was ache. I could go on and on. It really did a number on me, and, I grew up thinking everyone was better than me when they looked at me they saw a monster. That didn't do to much for my ego. Sometimes I felt like I was going to explode if I heard them comparing me to the negative one more time. She smarter, more social, dresses better, prettier, better manners, I wish you could be like that. Once, I got a job in a really nice nightclub. I tell my Mom and her reaction was, "good, maybe they can teach you how to dress". Oh, I let them, I dressed like a whore the entire time I worked there. I think she was glad when I went back to my regular style of dressing.
I am a loner by nature, so I don't understand feeling alone. If I want company I make the effort to become friends. But, like I said, I prefer to be alone. I guess I live in my head.
Good luck to you. I hope you find you some friends. I do know that long distance relationships are very hard. But, worth it if you love someone.good luck.
Also suggested is talking to her. That is a good idea.
