Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
I'm certainly not trying to tell you what to do, I'm just trying to give you an outsiders point of view. Also I'm wishing that you'll have a good day. Please don't overthink this one.
He's just lonely. Tell him if he's dumped you the polite thing to do would be to eff of and make new friends. You are not his mother. You don't have to take this.
As to this 'wait it out malarkey, wait what out? The guy's given you the kick. It's over.
He's given you the kick but now he's lonely so he's turning to the only friend he has who is always there for him. Explain that if he needs you this much in his life he is very odd to dump you, so he needs to make up his mind once and for all. In or out but get off the fence. Your affections are not just some plaything. You are alive too.
Bridgie, I'm not telling him to f off. That's not how I treat people. I do love him and we have a child.
For reference people, he didn't end it this time. We don't have a place to live, so he had been sleeping in his car for a month. I pre-emotively ended us because I assumed he would after spending some time thinking. Due to the depression I had started questioning my love for him months earlier. Now I know that I still love him and am in love with him.
He's NOT lonely. It's called love. There were other circumstances outside his life that made him leave twice. The first time my son's father was influencing my son and so my son made his life hell. He made my life hell for years. The second time we didn't have a place to live. It's not as cut and dry as you people are assuming. It's called being dealt a bad deck.
But understanding the dynamics of a broken relationship with a child involved, I would say he cares about you so he wants to keep a connection going, no break up is easy and everyone deals with them differently
You will get to a point at some stage when maybe you have had enough of the back and forth behaviour or maybe you won't
Why don't you both try couples counselling together also see a doctor or natrapath to try to help ease the depression/numbness
Xxx
Hope this helped
Good luck with your life op. I shall go now.
You said, "The first time my son's father was influencing my son and so my son made his life hell. He made my life hell for years." Your child is presumably pretty young if you are together for 6 and half years so I guarantee your son is suffering the brunt of this, especially given what you said.
Personally, I'd cut off any romantic anything (text, email, facebook, in person etc) and say we need to fix this because we have a child.
I'm very happy to hear that you got all that insurance craziness worked out. It can get overwhelming so you're doing the right thing. Depression seriously messes with relationships. Counseling as a family and individually is really needed I think. It's been 6 and half years and you haven't successfully resolved any of these issues on your own. I'm glad you found a therapist and i hope this person is a better therapist. Ask about family therapy options as well when you get there.
No romance. I know, I'm a broken record. That's because I know we humans need repetition to get it to sink in. Your romantic texts and mind games are messing with you and your child and the father is seriously in need of a smack upside the head for this crap because it's completely unacceptable, especially if you are the mother of his child. But you also need to put the stop sign up and stop it immediately when he even hints at it.
I'm not a therapist but please take these suggestions to heart. Your child is really hurting because of this. He's job number 1 for both of you. I don't know you but I'm going on a basic assumption that you want what's best for all of you including your son. You can't be romantically together now because you repeat the same patterns. Now is not the time for a romantic relationship with him. Now is the time for family therapy and for him to get proper housing and to seriously consider his son's needs. A therapist gives an objective perspective and it can significantly help if you follow the therapist's counsel.
Even though you feel like he's the right guy and your child's father, he may not be. He definitely isn't now. Neither of you should be pursuing romance with anyone until this is on the right track again. I am trying to be kind and direct because it kills me that your kid is mixed up in this. He needs parents that put him first. Romance between you, if it is the cards, is just a bad idea right now. Whether it remains that way depends on what you two decide to do.
I really wish you luck and I hope you take this to heart knowing that I would like you to come back on here in a year and say - Hi remember me? Wel,l we are doing really well. Father has a home either with you or somewhere else. Your child is healthy emotionally and knows what's going on, knows mom and dad love him and you are on the way or already are a family again. That's a happy ending and I want it for you and your family.
