A judge in Ontario has ruled that Canada's pot laws governing possession and cultivation are unconstitutional, infringing on liberty rights guartanteed in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
If the ruling stands (the Federal government has 3 months to appeal), this will effectively legalize pot in Ontario. The ruling will be effective only in Ontario, but generally these types of rulings, if they stand, made in one province precipitate a ripple effect across the country - particularly if tha province is Ontario. Ontario and Quebec taken together are home to over half of the country's population, so if something is deemed unconstitutional in Ontario it's only a matter of time before the other provinces follow suit.

I do hope that laws are put in place that make people responsible for any damage they do while under the influence.
I expect that such an outcome will be very closely watched by many groups in the US who have vested interests in our pot laws. Both the "for" and "against" pot use sides will try to find justification.
I favor legalization, or at least de-criminalization.
