I gave one employee. My former employee of 8 years quit in June 2012 because he couldn't deal with my boss any longer. I am contract labor. So u hired someone to replace him. We get along very well. This former employee phoned me today and wanted to take me out for lunch today.
I was stunned to hear he wanted his job back. He gave me a letter with Hus terms. As much as he was an excellent employee how could he possibly think I would let his replacement go. He even offered to add to her severance package . To me when he handed his notice in that was it. It was done poorly and left me very hurt.
He now admits he had poor communication skills. I was his first boss. He had a job interview today and it didn't go well. He scores in the high 90's on his exams. He was told today he was not assertive enough.
I believe he is having trouble getting out of his comfort zone.
His can I truly help him . I am not going to let his replacement go. That usjust wrong. I think he is very unsure of hhimself and I am his comfort zone.
I would sure love some input.

You can't 'help' him by giving him his job back.... However, after 8 years of 'service', you can provide him with a 'glowing' (if that is the case) reference.
