i have depression but i am in denial of it all, just trying not to deal with it, life has me down, mostly dealing with my daughter who has aspergers i am depressed thinking about her future and what it holds, i get really upset thinking what if something happens to me, who is gonna be there for her to keep her on the straight and narrow, its very depressing knowing that someday she iwill have to do things without me or her mother here. and i know that she wont be able to handle it. i have so many issues for myself i need to deal with and i dont even know how to express them or talk about them. my wife and i are on opposite planets when it comes to this i cant even confide in here without an arguement breaking out. i just need to vent and try to make myself feel; better, but its not working

One of my friends son had aspergers and I know that all cases are not the same... It seems like it takes a lot of work and patience and sometimes she is just drained from it all. However in his case... The doctors tell her that he will most likely be very independent when he becomes a adult. Maybe this will be true of your daughter? It sounds like you are a very loving dad who cares a great deal for her. She is a lucky girl. But it's really damaging for you to wonder "what if"? I understand trying to plan for the future but worrying about it is sapping the strength that you could be using now. I'm not the best on giving advice about kids that need extra help. Just do what you can to get through this week and then this month...

Worrying about our kids and our friends and family is quite normal.

I worry all the time about my kids and they're adults :-)

Your daughter is a very lucky girl to have such a wonderful father like her looking out for her :-)

Sometimes the best thing we can do for our kids is to love them and it sounds like that is exactly what you are dong

Amy thank you, her issues run deep and she wont be independant, she is very strong willed but very dependant on others and always will be, i know worrying about what ifs is not a good thing. but sometimes its all i dwell on, i dont have anxiety over it just depresses me even more than i already am.

Wally thanks i have 2 daughters and i dont worry like this for her future, she is younger but she can stand on her own. i know she can. thanks for the words of encouragement

seems like you're dealing w alot. i'm slightly familiar w/ aspergers, and i know that the menatl healht field has made so much progress in treating individuals..so what i'm trying to say is..down the line your worrying can be lessened because your daughter may bvery well be in good hands. sorry that you and your wife aren't on the same wavelengths. i think venting is good, you don't feel so alone. can't hold it in, bcz then it tuns to depression. hug to you and your dear daughter. i had a girl w/ aspergers volunteer w/ my girl scouttroop to gain credits for a badge. she was a joy to me.

I believe you wrote about your daughter one other time so I hope I don't repeat myself. I'm embarrassed to say that I watched America's next top model years ago and there was a young girl on there who had Aspergers. Well, I have to tell you, she was a heck of a model and a very nice person. And very smart. The other girls didn't know how to perceive her until they got to know her. In fact, I think she came in 3rd place out of 16 girls. How is she when you and her mother aren't around? Is she fairly self sufficient? I'm hoping that you are worrying for nothing and that she is going to be just fine. I'm sorry that you and your wife are on different pages but you can confide in us as much as you need to and feel comfortable enough to do.

Elena i am but for all i deal with for the most part i just keep going its onlg when i stop goong i think too much. As for her aspergers for her its all the social aspect for the most part. The.minute she becomes confused over the smallest thing its all down hilll or up hill from there depending on how you look at it.

Gramy bear thanks i know i just hope she gets through the hard parts now a d learns to cope.

As for my wife and i we have been on opposite pages since day one. She is a very dependant person where i am very independant. The way we both think is totally opposite. Which is another reason i am down in a rut. I live in my man cave in my basement for the moat part alone. To avoid any negative confrontations.
