Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Get plenty of sunshine.
Get outside and walk
Make sure you shower and get dressed every day.
Stay active.
Try doing some mental work out tricks such as meditation, imagine yourself somewhere that brings you peace and mentally stay there for a few minutes.
Try reading books that deal with depression. I just got a new one for Christmas...What on Earth am I Here For. I have not read it yet but books like that help me.
Again, I am sorry your experience here was so bad. Keep reaching out. It has been the holidays and that has kept a lot of people busy. You have to remember though, we are not counselors. The only true advice we can give here is see a doctor. The rest is just opinions of the individual members.
Then you have more support than I do. Some people on here don't have a single friend or confidant, nevermind a wife, to turn to,
I can only tell you what worked for me.
Meds changed my life back in 1998. And yes, reading your Coles Notes biography suggests you probably are clinically depressed and could well stand to benefit from medication. Then again, "you can lead a horse to water...", as the old saying goes, right?
wetnoodle2... yes i have a wife.but i dont feel like i can talk to her about anything cause it just isnt fair. she is ill. i mean a long term illness and how can i as a human being add more stress to her life?and because of her illness and my job all my friends have gone because i have no time for them anymore.i work 10 hours a day and before and after work i take care of my wife. that is my life and somewhere in there hopefully get some sleep.and i have to work 10 hours a day just to pay the damn bills. i truly hate my life
Sometimes reading others' posts are helpful too. You might find that someone else has a similar problem, and as they work through it, you can work through your own issue.
All you can really do is open up about your problem, as you have, and wait for replies. If you don't get them right away, don't be discouraged. Sometimes people hold back because they don't have something specifically helpful to say, or can't relate to a particular post. Keep trying!
