i just got news today that completely destroyed me and now idk what to do.  i got a letter from the college im going to next year and it was the tuition cost for next year.. and its so much more than i thought it'll be and i cant afford it and idk what to do anymore because i thought it'll be easy once i got accepted to the school but now its so much harder for me. i probably cant go anymore because theres no way i can afford going there for 4 years so i might as well drop out now to save myself 25k a year.. also cuz of the virus i cant even work at my job to get money and its been so hard staying at home by myself alone with my thoughts with no one to talk to because i dont have friends and its making me feel so shitty

Dont immediately think you can't, you can talk to the financial aid people at the college and see if its possible. Most people get loans and only start paying them off after graduating. Also, look into community colleges, you can take the first two years there to save a lot of money and then transfer to a 4 year college to finish last two years which is what I'm doing

What profession/career are you pursuing?

IMHO, most colleges nowadays lure young impressionable adults with the lure of prestigious sounding degrees and promises of huge starting incomes. What students are left with is crushing debt and average job prospects.

yard_eggs im going to a culinary school.. so its just 2 years but my mom wants me to get a bachelor's degree as a backup at the school too. the culinary arts program is really good tho and that includes boarding and room

My daughter went to a jr college studying culinary arts. She used the skills he learned there to earn money and pay for her Bachelors degree. She currently makes nice money as a food broker. And practices her culinary skills catering on the side. Just really investigate the school. Many such schools or training programs are scams just designed to take your money and you end up with a worthless diploma.

What types of jobs do the graduates have? Not just their claims, but documented job and wage statistics.

Josh, I just graduated from university last year, and I've funded my entire degree from my work pay cheques. I agree with our friends' suggestions that you should apply for a scholarship first. If that does not work, perhaps you can drop down to a part-time stream so that you can work whilst you study. There are plenty opportunities to take on an apprenticeship in a restaurant (perhaps after the coronavirus scare) where you an earn whilst you learn. It's going to be tough working whilst studying but you are a young man with good health, so I don't think it would be so tough. Keep up with your dream, and don't abandon your opportunity for an education because it will come handy as you grow older.
