I'm so sorry sweetie. Honestly, I think it was the combination. After one of my dad's back surgeries, he was on ambien and oxycodone and I witnessed a person I've never seen in my life. It was scary. ( just speaking from experience seeing my dad take both ). Can you call your doc tomorrow and see what he ( or the nurse ) says about your experience last night? I hope the aleve helps you, but you're under a week post op and I don't want you to be in alot of pain. :(

I'm glad you have a post op appt. tomorrow. No offense to the last reply before this one, but I will say if pain killers kill you, I would've been dead 3 years ago after my spinal fusion surgery on my back.. Pain killers don't kill you if taken as prescribed for the reasons prescribed. In saying that, some people do have bad reactions. That's why it's always the best thing to work with your doctor for the best pain management you are comfortable with. Big hugs xoxo

I think Cedar was being casual, and I understand both of you. All meds have individual responses. A lot of pills that have been in use for a long time have well understood side effects and have been "fixed" over time to reduce the side effects.

For me, who knows. It could have been some 3rd thing I ingested that contributed to the reaction and I can resume taking them. But the pain has not been bad enough to make me reconsider!

I had a bad reaction to 2 different painkillers and stopped taking them as they didn't help. I hope you get to feeling better. Big healing hugs to you Pepper. Glad you are going to the Drs. tomorrow.

I had the same surgery. It will get better. Try not to push yourself. Time heals all wounds

I think you made a good chouice they could of given you a diferant painkiller than oxidean ...that is very ...addictive .......I hope you are feeling better now ......you could see your family doctor and he could give you ..tylonal ..3 or two ....that would realy help .....with the pain .......it is hard when your movements are so restricted .......but you need that to realy heal well ......so ..look after your self .....here I just call my farmist and he called the doctor and would Chang the painkiller I am on ...I don't know if you can do that there .......................I keep you in my prayers ......you have to think it is only temporary that you will have these restrictions on you ........it is posible you had a reaction ...to the meds to .....take care ...God bless

I'm glad the pain isn't too bad and you can get some relief with aleve. I know a lot of people are allergic to codeine. Let us know what the doc says! Big hugs!!

For some, OTC is or can be a VERY bad idea. My VA doc freaked when I wanted to take OTC (Aleve, Advil, or ????) instead of the prescribed Tramadol. Said (at least for me) an absolute NO ... having to do with kidney damage that I did not even know I was at risk for. CHECK WITH DOC first for any/all medications.

I see my doctor today, and will double check with him. He did say that Alieve was OK before surgery (except for the med free 3 day run-up to the surgery) so I ASSUME that it is still OK to take them.

Actually now that you mentioned it, my 81 year old dad told his nurse that he takes aleve every morning ( he is also on oxycodone twice a day for his severe chronic pain ) and she told him that no one over the age of 65 should ever take aleve because of the risk of kidney damage. I've taken aleve many times and just don't get much relief. Then again I don't get much relief from any OTC pain med. My ortho surgeon at one point told me I could take TWELVE ibuprofen a day. ( 4, 3 x a day ). No way in heck would I ever take 12 ibuprofen a day. I hear that ibuprofen will tear your stomach up. I don't take narcotics anymore , so I do take ibuprofen but try to stick with no more than 4 a day. Tylenol is supposed to be bad for your liver in high doses... good grief. I guess we're all supposed to just suffer? didn't mean to scare you with the aleve. I do like that it's a 12 hour OTC pain reliever. I'm sure if he didn't want you to take it he would tell you.
