Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
So... In continuation of the previous discussion.
Today I asked people beforehand if they were ok with the fact that our support group became a prayer circle. Some were fine with it but they didn't agree with focusing on prayer taking into account that there aren't only christians in the group. Others agreed with it and said they felt it was helping and the majority is as annoyed as I am.
As the meeting started she began with asking who went to confess...
I interrupted her and told her that, although I understand she was trying to help, this wasn't the place to apply such treatment since most of us aren't getting help from "prayer", most of us don't believe in God, and even some who do don't believe this sort of approach is helping.
What followed was a speech about religious discrimination and how I was getting in the way of healing. The religious portion of the group took her side and one of them literally shoved me back... People wanted to start a fight but I said I was leaving and so should everyone who needs REAL HELP (I was mean on that one).
So... Guess who needs another support group yaaaaaay.
Seriously I'm not confrontational... I am usually indiferent to these things but even I have a limit.

I think this might be where wandering... (sorry forgot the rest of his/her name) is coming from: believe or leave, ie pretend to be religious, or get burned at the stake.
Take a goat. Sacrifice it to Baal for the sake of taking away all your sins. Tell them to respect your choice of religious faith. Then tell them your god's bigger than their god and your god can take their god. Scream one-outs and then go hide under a desk.
But yeah, believe or leave is the bottom line. You cannot reason with the irrational, and the one fundamental basis of all religion is that it is irrational. That's not an insult to it: it's its fundamental basis. If you can prove God exists, where is the belief? Where is the faith if you already know?
You have to believe without proof. That's the entire bottom line. It does NOT believe in what is provable. It demands you believe in that which cannot be proven. So religion is anti-logic and relies on its followers accepting this way of operating.
And an atheist attempting logic only comes across as a servant of Satan performing a Test. So you can't get anywhere.
And I love bridgies idea of taking a goat and sacrificing it to Baal. Sounds like a Stargate reference to me.

Acting with entitlement like that is very rude, and I am happy that you rose above that level and walked out. I wish you and the others with your views the best of luck searching for a new support group.

Even though I think all religion is fallacious, inherently evil and the inception for orwellian totalitarian regimes. I also believe people are inherently good because we are naturaly programmed to live in communities and be good to one another. I keep being reminded of that everyday. I can't thank you people enough for the support even though your beliefs are (to me) questionable. That's the extent of my secular beliefs, I believe in the uncorrupted morals of man in his nature.
