New to medication..

Today I went to see a doctor and they put me on anti-depressant medication called Escitalopram and she has me at 10mg.. has anyone ever taken this? And has it worked for you?..  This is my first time taking this and having medication to help with my depression.. this may sound silly but I'm kinda scared and what the feelings it will give me.. and how it will take awhile to get used... I just hope this works..

Hi Angel, Yes, I'm taking that med currently been on it for 5 days now. It has very few side effects, but ofcourse everyone acts differently to different meds. If your not comfortable maybe ask your doc if you go on slowly like break it in half 5mgs a day to for a bit then up to 10 to minimize the chance of getting side effects. The usual side effects at least for me is slightly dry mouth, nausea, and a little dizziness. I'm banking on it working since ive tried so many others. Hope this helps and hope the med works for you! It might take a few weeks for the med to start working.

I've taken it for about two years. I really like it and it works well for me. There are few side effects unlike others I have taken. But these anti depressants all work differently on different people.

I had to change pdocs and the new took me off of it in favor of Effexor. It was easy to get off of so far as withdrawal goes. Effexor didn't work for me so I told her to put me back on my old anti depressant. Having horrible withdrawal from the Effexor. Can't wait to get back to Lexapro.

josemoes294- thank you, yes it helped.. gives me a little more reassurance of this medication.. ya I definitely feel a little weird but I guess it will take some time to getting used..

Do not fear this type of medication but also be aware that it alone usually will not take you where you want to be. Exercise you brain to feel better too.
