Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
hello to my favorite community.
just a heads up...we've added rating and sharing features tonight. you're just seeing the tip of the iceberg, but these tools allow you to:
a) send advice, stories or anything you find valuable on DS to others or post on the Web for folks who don't know DS to take advantage of.
b) Highlight the 'best of' stuff that you find on DS. we'll soon add more ways to highlight the content that you all rate...the idea is to bring forward the jewels so that they can get folks to the right advice and best answers quicker. plus, it always feels good to know that something you've written is helpful, or inspirational, right?
There's some other new stuff out there as well...the site should be even faster now, and we've redesigned a few things based on your feedback.

note that all of the 'ratings' are positive...we took great care to make sure that people aren't critical of each other.

Not that it may be a problem, I think there will be alot of abuse of the abuse button.
as an example, I have had people curse me for sending them prayers, thats fine, I do not judge them. but will they say I am abusive or ? because of the conflict of opinions ?
Hopefully people will not be click happy.
There are bound to be disagreements on any open forum/board such as DS. Even if somebody vents, using cuss words, or tells you off, that necessarily doesn't constitute abuse. Some sites do have monitors 24/7, but I don't see that as necessary in those instances. I would like to see a monitor that has access to folks wanting to kill themselves. But, if these suicidal folks really want help, there are abuse hotlines they can call.
