I am never enough for my mom, getting a B on a math quiz is a disappointment. So irritating that I try my hardest and I still feel like I have failed her once again.

I was recently separated from my wife of 33 years and it's complicated. Anyway I rented a room about 15 minutes away and I see my kids about once a week. I see the people who own the house I live in once in a while but other than that I stay in my room where I do my cooking, wash dishes in the shower, read, color, and sleep. I get out at least once a day. I grocery shop and I attend 2 meetings...

It is hard to deal with a parent who sets high standards for us, and then raises them if we meet those standards.
One of the best things you can do is to look to yourself for praise on good grades and other things.
Is your father in your life? If so, does he praise you for your accomplishments?
This is however coupled with you not sponging off her till you're thirty because you didn't get a job.
I grew up with a similar mother, and the only time she expressed pride in my work was to show off to other people.
The truth is that she was never happy with what gave her. I won a State Superintendent Award, and she only nodded in satisfaction. Mentally she was patting HERSELF on the back that she raised me right. I heard her say as much to a friend once.
Do your best because it's your education and your future that you are preparing for. You have to care about the score, NOT YOUR MOM. In the end, you are doing the work, your name is on the test and you make the decisions.
I know it's hard because you love her, but whether she is happy or sad with your results is not your problem. It's not your job to satisfy your Mom.
If it's any help, I am very proud you made a B.
