Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
As to everything else: sounds awful. When I really couldn't get work at one point I put an ad in the local paper (cost $6) saying 'responsible housewife fallen on hard times, will take on any task, cleaning, window washing, gardening, $15/hr'
In NZ minimum wage was at the time about $14.75 so you can see I wasn't asking much. Cleaners at the time were getting $20.
I got a ton of work. Yes, I had to wash windows. Yes, I had to weed and break soil. But people got me back in because I was cheap. I was cheap, and I worked my butt off, and I was glad for every job because it meant I could feed my daughter. And they paid cash. You really only need a couple of mornings a week cleaning houses to make enough to eat, at least, if you're not paying rent.
I'm sorry about how your mom responded. My dad gets violent and calls me a communist because I'm not ultra conservative like him and it's never ok to disagree with him. Such a load.
I'm sorry your friend is about to pass but I'm glad his family is there for him. It will become even more difficult after his passing. If you know what hospice he is in, can you call them and ask for him? Or call someone in his family to find out?
Don't give up on trying to find work. I am going to be volunteering soon because I can't get back to normal work yet bc of back surgery and depression is complicating things. If you decide to go the school route like Justy suggested, talk to a career counselor and financial aid at the college to discuss your options and figure out what you want to do if you don't know already.
If you are on medicine, you must have a doctor. Call the doctor and talk to them about changing the dosage or the medicine altogether. Call your local hospital and inquire about groups dealing with death, dying and grief. Groups dealing with similar issues can really help because you are among people who can relate.
