Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
As to depression being the cause? I refute that completely.
You are on a website full of people with depression. I myself was diagnosed with major depressive disorder among other things. I've certainly been suicidal, i've certainly been miserable. I've had times of my life which were one long scream of terror and despair.
I haven't cut myself. Why not? Because as a problem solving technique I'm pretty sure it gets about a 0 out of 100. I haven't abused someone else's medication. Why not? Because as a problem solving technique, I'd say it gets about 0 out of 100.
Depression is how one feels. How one responds to it, positively, negatively, intelligently, stupidly - that's down to one's own personal style. That's personal choice.
So you go ahead and make your choice but don't pretend for a second that it's the depression controlling you. It's you deciding how positively and intelligently you will respond to that depression, and it is 100% within your own personal control.
