I know you probably have had enough of my surgery, but just to let you know I will NEVER have a surgery that won't let me go home to my home.
I have a green cheek conure ( cinnamon type) . My mom claims to be allergic to feathers. Because she had a allergic reaction to dads goose down feathered pillow. They use all kinds of chemicals to clean those feathers. She was more then likely allergic to the chemicals. And you can't be allergic to a birds feathers. It's their Dander that a person would be allergic too. And green cheek conures don't carry dander or dust which it often is called.
So in other words. I was not allowed to bring my bird with me when I had surgery. I had a friend watch him. She put him in the laundry room. A very loud and scary place for a bird. I didn't know she put him in there. I'm sure he was taken out daily though cuz she liked him.
then she went on vacation and left him with her hubby. I don't have a problem with either. But my bird hates him. So he didn't get to come out along with the other birds.
To give you a little history on the bird and me. i got him from petco. He was a handfed baby. I took him home. Made him the center of my life, the very meaning for me to live!!!! His place is the living room he has a playstand and a cage in there. He is hardly ever on either one. He's usually on me.
But now he rarely wants anything to do with me. And I know that is my fault, because he thought I abandoned him. He was fine last yr. But this yr he's avoiding me as much as he can.
One time when I looked at him he has a place where he's missing feathers. I took him to a bird store where they looked at him and said yes he's plucking. I would have taken him to the vet if I thought he was sick. But he's not sick he's sad and depressed. And it's my fault.
Give it time and it will come back. Are you able to spend time playing? Are you able to give more toys, play music birdy likes, make birdy feel okay? Being locked in isolation in the laundry will have been awful for him. But luckily it wasn't you that did it. You just keep on being kind and friendly and giving love and birdy will eventually come back to himself.
Just remember: he doesn't blame you. He doesn't know it was you that did it.. He just needs you to help him get over the PTSD. And maybe join a bird club so that when you have to have birdy babysat the people know how to treat parrots.
I am definitely playing with him. Got him a new toy and some treats. So hopefully that will stop him. I think he might have stopped already just being home. He's a lot skinnier then when I brought him there too. But he was fat so he might be where he should be.
Thank you! And I'd love to join a bird club, but there are none in spokane. I wanted to volunteer at a bird rescue but they said I was a "liability" because of my disabilities.
I would happily give $20 towards getting someone with disabilities a friend for their parrot. Or pretty much anybody, because I'd be doing it for the bird. Birds are not solitary animals. And parrots are so intelligent, they need company and stimulation. They actually go mad without it. The world is filled with caged cockatoos gone insane from isolation.
I'm really sorry that the people at bird rescue are saying you are a liability due to your disabilities. . That's just not fair. :(
