Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
as for the little things, i remember when a friend wrote about having a spare tired and thinking, "i could never handle that right now, i would give up right there and then!" and thought, something has to give...
as for other laughing and talking in the hall way, i did much the same... the BEST advice i got from my therapist at that time was to "live a non-depressed life" (she meant "fake it til you make it") - she said something about neural pathways and other stuff that i couldn't really care less about...
faking it was SO FRIGGIN hard, it took every ounce of energy i had to fake it... but i did. i did it every day, even here on DS.
i stopped posting how i was really feeling and pretended to be a happy sappy cheerful person - in real life, i pretended everything was ok even to myself. when i didn't want to take a shower, i told myself that a "non-depressed" person would take a shower and forced myself to do it!
don't get me wrong, pretending to be happy when you are dying inside is pretty hard stuff - but something did happen. i did start to feel "better" - i'm sorry you are going through this, you certainly are not alone...
hang in there - and lets just all hope for the best!
I'm happy to know someone else has felt this way. And maybe, just maybe I can start moving past it.
