Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.

My therapist suggested I start taking antidepressants to see if it helps since ive been having a difficult time lately.. But I dont want to because of like the possible side effects especially since im young. Like the whole causing suicidal thoughts thing does that actually happen?

Different meds have different results for people. Suicidal thoughts while being on them are rare and if you do feel that while on them you need to tell your doc immediately! More times than none it takes awhile to find the right meds/dosage. Also it takes at least a good 6-8 weeks to start feeling a bit of a turn around. Good luck!

You never know how meds will effect you... mentally AND physically. Personally I was MORE suicidal ON meds. Have you tried other ways of managing ur depression like natural supplements?

Ever hear of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy? (CBT for short) The idea behind it is to change your ways of thinking without medication. I'm going to try it out myself this Friday. Also, I've been depressed for what feels like over a decade now. The more things you try, the better it becomes. I know it must be very hard for you, just keep on getting as much support as you need. Also, try watching something funny, whatever makes you laugh. And as for the medications, keep it as an option, and you can always get off them if they have any adverse effects.

I am the side effect king every medicine I took gave me a side effect so yes side effects happen.

There are possible side effects with any medication. If your doctor prescribes medication, they would monitor you closely. If you take a medication and notice something new that is negative, you would talk to your doctor and they would make adjustments or changes to your medication.

My Dr. Put me on cipralex which is a newer antidepressant, the side effects I felt lasted for about 3 weeks and consisted of night sweats and diarrhea. Once I got through that I never had a panic attack and didn't have problems sleeping. I would ask my Dr. About cipralex
