Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
My teenage years were extremely difficult--as teens we are always focused on being whatever it is they need to be in that moment to make friends and feel secure--masking your depression I think would be a priority at that age because of that alone...
I was a straight A student, in the choir, all the sports, the "in crowd"-prom queen--all the "good stuff" as we say. I was recommended by the staff as being one of the nicest, kindest students--they never once questioned what was on the inside. I WAS the queen of masking myself--if they only knew that every smile covered a hurting scared soul....I learned this--I was the proof of this--I live my life with this rule in mind---
WHAT YOU SEE IS NOT ALWAYS WHAT YOU GET.
I am proud that you are taking this to the school and working to get them more aware...sometimes the depression that lives in the closet of ones soul is scarier than the one we can identify by textbook criteria.
