so i just got back from an appointment with the career center at my school. needless to say, i am so far from where i should be at this point. I'm a 20 yr old undecided sophmore in college with zero work experience, except for a few volountary works here and there. I recently transfered from The City College Of New York(ccny) to Baruch College(a really good school for business related fileds) with the intentions of possibly majoring in accountancy. I made the appointment with the career center today to ask about the steps i should take to further myself in he accountancy field and also about internships i could do. Well, this is where the b.s. started, in order to get internships you more or less need to have some sort of experience with accountancy, which i absolutely have none and you also need to atleast be cureently majoring in that field, i'm undecided. ughh, life is just too complicated for me right now, idk what i want to do in life, or atleast what steps i could take to get into a certain field....idk, i just feel bad for myself, and my parents for having me as a son. i'm such a let down, i dnt know how i'm going to make it in life, and now i'm questioning if this life is even worth living, i honestly can't see success in my future so why even try? the world doesn't need another waste of space ad i think it wold be in the best interest of everybody if i just ended it. gosh, i dnt even knw how to describe how lost i feel right now, all i know is that i hate myself for the position i'm in.
Are you PASSIONATE about being an accountant?
I earned a B.A. in Communications, at the urging of my mother, when all I ever really wanted to do was audio-visual production. Needless to say, the college degree was a lot of theory and fluff that I really didn't need, to do what I wanted to do.
I too felt lost in college. It took me 9 years to earn a 4-year degree, but I finished, and have struggled financially ever since in the video production industry. Now I mainly do wedding videos, which are OK. I'd like to do more commercials. They're short, sweet and, if one gets steady, repeat business, can be lucrative. I'm building up connections.
Meanwhile, desperate times, desperate measures, I trained for and got a class D unarmed security officer license and have been a part-time fill-in guard at various gatehouses. Needless to say, it ain't realizing my true brilliance, but it's helping pay the bills.
I also started free-lance blog writing, about photography, audio and video, for skyword.com. I currently have one client through them, Sanford-Brown University, and they pay $120 per 300-700 word finished article.
There are many paths to fortune and glory, my son.
