I changed my avatar to my pet's picture the one I took about one month before she died. I know she was a pet not a person but she was my friend and companion. I started crocheting about 2 months ago and the she was always by my side more than ever. She loved playing with the yarn and the aftgans I made. She would sleep on my chest at night and during the day and seem to not leave my side near the end. She died at home and I
pray she didn't suffer. I sang her favorite song to her as I held her. I am devistated! And now my thoughts of cutting and suicide are back. I just don't seem to care anymore about doing anything. I am so down. I must continue to crochet because the things I make are for the prayer shawl ministry at my church that they give to people that have been on the prayer chain. But it hurts so much to do so now because it was her favorite thing.
Please, to those that understand the pain of losing a pet, to please pray for me to let go of the pain but keep the memories of her alive. My sister found this poem and I want to write it for you for it is comforting to me.

POEM FOR CATS
And God asked the feline spirit, Are you ready to come home?
Soon, replied the whiskered angel
But I must come slowly.
For my huiman friends are toubled.
For you see, they need me, quite certainly.

But don't they understand? asked God
That you'll never leave them?
That you souls are intertwined for all eternity?
That nothing is created or destroyed?
It just is...forever and ever and ever.

Eventually they will understand, Replied the glorious cat.
For I will whisper into their hearts
That I am always with them. I just am... forever and ever and ever.

I am so sorry. Our pets are family! Please, try not to hurt yourself. When you are ready maybe you could get a kitten.

It is not easy to lose a pet. When I was a teenager I lost 3 dogs in less than 3 weeks, two on the same day. It was devastating especially since I was hand feeding them in the final days.

There is a pet bereavement group on here that you might want to look into.

My entire sympathy goes out to you. I would be.. or will be devastated when my pet's time comes. I CERTAINLY won't compound the event with anything foolish though. Sadly, death is natural.

Your kitty was not just an animal, they are more than that. They are our best friends, are there for us through thick and thin, and the poem you received is perfect. Try to keep in your mind that you wouldn't want your baby to suffer and that she is with the Lord and will be with you one day, just not today. She can now frolic around with all the other cats and pets in heaven and will never be in pain again. That is what we always want for our animals. I lost a dog because he was upset that I left him to go pick up Pizza. He ran down the hill to chase after me and was hit by a Suburban going about 35 miles an hour. He was a Chihuahua. I held him for a couple of hours before I could let go so someone could bury him. But I know that he didn't suffer and he too is now up in heaven frolicking around and having a good ole time. Let yourself go through the 5 steps of grieving and then maybe think about getting a new baby. I have had mine for 13 years now. Keep posting and talking about this if it helps you, okay? Hugs GB

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. My pets are family. That poem is very touching, reminds me of those I've lost.
Please stay strong.
I like to think every ow and then my pets that I've lost are next to me now and again :)

That was so beautiful Hunny! So terribly sorry for your loss.

We lost two of our wonderful kitties in a tow year period.

One was gently put down and the other I found dead.

The grief will soften but never go away completely!.

Maybe not a person but definitely more than a friend. More like a loved one. I was told once a kittens purr is very therapeutic so I went to the local shelter and picked me the cutest one. A week after I got her I found her on my bed curled up sleeping, when I went to pet her she was cold. I was mortified! What I did though was as soon as I was able I went and got another kitty. Ive had her for almost 2 years, I still think of my first one but it helps knowing Im still able to love.

This makes me wanna cry because I could see how devastating this could be. Pets are like family and God gives them to us for a reason. Sometime they are easier to deal with than humans :) We need humans but pets are so loving and protective and forgive easy.

Over the years I have lost many special pets and it never gets easier I'm afraid. After losing our first Siamese cat at age 19 I could not take our house being so quiet and I made my husband get me another Siamese kitten. It was still hard but after seeing my first baby grow old and feeble it was uplifting to see the little guy full of spunk and energy. I don't know if this would be the answer for you but there are an awful lot of animals in the shelters just waiting for someone to love them. If you can Goggle the Rainbow Bridge it is a lovely poem

Yes, the Rainbow Bridge is a wonderfully comforting thought. Well worth the time to find.

I have lost many pets over the years. It hurts each time, but the love and memories from each of them is well worth the final hurt.

I'm about 61 now, and I expect my current cat and dog to be my last. Not sure that I could deal with getting new ones when I'm 75 and then worrying about them outliving me and who will take care of them when I'm gone.

But I will cross that bridge when I get there.

And we are here for you as you cross that bridge now.
