Depression Support Group
Depression is a real and debilitating condition that is often misunderstood by family and friends. Its meaning can range from a prolonged period of sadness to an actual mental illness with specific symptoms. Find and share experiences with others who are going through the same struggles.
Hope everything goes well for u
We feel like we have no friends even if we do. This makes us isolate ourselves and lose contact with the people who care about us. We do this to ourselves because of the depression.
We feel everyone judges us. This makes us try incredibly hard to never get anything wrong, and exhaust ourselves making sure everything we do is perfect. Now that I am older and do not do this, I want to tell younger women to just stop and lighten up! They're killing themselves and anyone worth anything doesn't care about the dishes or the floors or the hairdo.
Depression I think comes with being quite judgemental. We're judgemental of others, and ourselves. When we realise how judgemental we're being and we stop judging other people, we realise we don't have to judge ourselves either. The worst case scenario is where you make excuses for others but judge yourself harshly. Don't do it.
Depression can also create a situation where you make up lies to cover up for perceived crimes. Because you can't handle any judgement or reprisal, your emotions are too fragile. And yet when we just own up to what we do and are, people just don't bother. they let go. They fight us because they feel we're lying. If they ask 'who ate the last biscuit' and you pipe up 'me' they just don't have else they can think of to say.
Comments about keeping strong. This is a common thread for us all: 'we have depression because we endured too much' or 'our fault is not being too weak, it's being too strong'. - Well no, it's neither. It's being impractical is what it is. Being pointlessly strong is stupid. being weak is pathetic, but we should only be strong if it gives value. Otherwise 'free will' should rule and we should just be practical.
I think you may need counselling, and that's not a bad thing. I wish, you have no idea how I wish, that I had known how to get counselling in my 20s, I would not have wasted the next 25 yrs of my life. If there were any advice I would give to the younger version of me it is get a counsellor, tell them everything, even the stuff you swore to yourself never to tell a soul. They're sworn to secrecy and they've heard it all before, nothing will surprise them. So just tell EVERYTHING. And let it come out. And then you and the counsellor can look at everything and stick it together in a way that works.
otherwise you waste a huge portion of your life in a state of misery that's totally unnecessary. :)
