i have tried lexapro and paxil, i remain on the lexapro, paxil made me really wired...thanks for the sub cats...

on prozac and it sux. tried lexapro didn't help. maybe i should go for effexor or paxil next time. I am ready to try something new.

my mom takes effexor and she says it really helps her.

I found Lexapro to be very effective, Paxil had too many side effects, effexor I needed an increasingly large dose. All three effected my sleep and concentration abilities.

Loved Paxil (it only worked for me for one year) went to effexor (it only worked for me for one year)... it was OK. Then LExapro...HATED it Side effects were nearly deadly. I wanted to DIE so badly on Lexapro.

Any way remember this....such questions are loaded because I responded to these meds in vry different wys then you will. Also coming off these meds are a "trip"

Paxil was my fav SSRI until I hit the wall and they quit working for me... now my fav SSRI is Lexapro. It does wonders restoring a bit of normalcy to life, especially with my sleeping patterns, and I get some good days now and then, days I can wake up smiling and feeling okay.

I tried effexor and the side effects were so severe I couldn't make it thru the sample packs, talking severe headaches that never go away, just increase in intensity to the point a head-ectomy seems like a feasible solution. It's an SNRI so I figured that was the problem... best for me to stick with an SSRI.

Haven't tried any of these Doug... I am on Prozac. It has helped some, but I am getting mood swings as they increase the doseage. I definitely can't mix it with alcohol as I can hear death calling me too well and I have trouble fighting the call.

I have tried all three. I loved paxil for as long as it worked, about 6 years, effexor made me have bad chest pains, and lexapro is what I'm taking now, and it seems to be ok though not a huge difference like paxil was.

I started with Lexapro...it worked great for 3 years....then stopped. I then went to Prozac in Aug....it was terrible...made my depression worse. I am now on Effexor...but I just started it two weeks ago...so far it's ok...I have had the headaches like someone else mentioned. They have been pretty bad at times but have gone away so it is ok.

It depends if you need an SSRI or an SNRI (I am sleep deprived so may have got the last initilas wrong) Effexor XR has been the best for me, but still has not done much to help. I have found DS as good, if not better than all 3. I guess I just lucked out with all the medication I have tried over the years. Mine is clinical depression, you'd think I would respond to something!!! I hope you find the right one for you Doug. {{hugs}}

I'm now on effexerXR for around 1 mth I cant really tell yet i've been on paxil zoloft and I keep a few xanex around just in case! I also use trazadone to sleep but my dreams could win an oscar!! good luck -Tia61

Lets see.........Lexapro did nothing for me. Paxil ruined my labido and could not have an orgasum (ooops, *blush*, sorry but true). Why would a depressed person want their sex life to be bad too! Paxil also gave me some GI issues.
Tried Effexor and it works great. (I think)!

Effexor did very little for me and then gave me bad headaches (as did Cymbalta). Lexapro was useless, but no bad side effects. Have not tried Paxil. I am on Prozac again (it seems to work the best), but it has to be augmented. I also take Strattera, Ritalin, and Synthroid. This combination works best for me at this time. Trial and error seem to be the way it's done. I also have treatment resistant depression so you may not have as much trouble. Good luck.
